New Principal Hired For Buzzards Bay Parochial School
Elizabeth Hutchison, who most recently was the lead teacher at Holy Family Holy Name School in New Bedford, has taken over as the new principal of St. Margaret Primary School in Buzzards Bay.

A new principal has started work at St. Margaret Primary School in Buzzards Bay last week.
Elizabeth A. Hutchison was hired this past June and officially started in the position last month.
Mrs. Hutchison is the school’s fourth principal within the past two years and replaces Beth Mahoney, who is leaving for Fall River’s St. Stanislaus School.
He had temporarily replaced the longtime principal, Joyce Allison-Saucier, who had been with the local Roman Catholic schools for 24 years.
The school is a part of the system that also includes St. Francis Xavier Preparatory School and St. John Paul II High School, both of which are in Hyannis. The Buzzards Bay campus educates preschoolers through 4th graders with the Hyannis campus is home to the district’s 5th through 12th graders.
All three schools are part of the Fall River Diocese.
The St. Margaret school had been educating 5th through 8th grade students until last year, when the district was realigned to provide a more streamlined Catholic school education on Cape Cod. This most recent school year was the first year of the new alignment.
Mrs. Hutchison has a master’s degree of science in education and a bachelor’s of arts degree in history from Fordham University, and most recently was the lead teacher at Holy Family Holy Name School in New Bedford.
She has administrative experience as the educational coordinator and curator for historical societies in Fairfield, Connecticut, and Mattapoisett.
She said she is looking forward to her new role and getting to know the teachers, students, and staff at the school and is excited about continuing the work to develop the school into a caring and supportive environment that meets the needs of every student. In particular, she said that there are some exciting advancements in the works for the school’s STEM program.
“St. Margaret is a vibrant primary school that offers unique programs for its student population,” she said. “I am proud to help put into place the new Makerspace program that allows students to tinker creatively while learning STEM concepts.”
She said she is also looking forward to the introduction of the Tugboat program next summer, which will provide a summer camp experience for young students.
